Electric Scooters Galore List of Recommended Safety Gear

Wearing proper safety gear can make all the difference between a fun, safe riding experience, and a not-fun-at-all injury from a riding accident. Safety gear protects your well-being and perhaps even your life.

Here is our list of recommended safety gear:

  • HELMETS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED: Whenever you ride any personal vehicle such as a scooter or bike, WEAR A HELMET. We strongly recommend DOT-approved helmets to ensure an extra measure of protection: Shop here.

Please Note: Your helmet is the single most vital piece of safety equipment. Head injuries are the most dangerous and potentially debilitating consequence of accidents while in motion, and well-designed helmets that are fitted and worn properly offer the best protection against head injury.

When and how to wear a helmet: ALWAYS wear a helmet whenever riding any scooter, bike, ATV, go-cart, skateboard, skates, or any personal vehicle. Be sure that your helmet fits properly, is worn on your head at the correct angle, and is strapped on securely.

When to get a new helmet: Discard any helmet that has been involved in an accident, even if it appears to be undamaged (there may be hidden material stress that could lead to failure in a subsequent accident), and purchase a new one. You should also replace a helmet that has become too small with one having a correct fit.

  • KNEE PADS, ELBOW PADS, AND GLOVES: We encourage our customers to wear protective gear such as knee pads, elbow pads, and gloves to protect vital joints from injury. Wrist guards are not recommended for scooter riders because they can make it difficult to grip the handles; skateboarders and other hands-free riders, however, should wear wrist guards. When riding a scooter or bike, we recommend wearing gloves that pad the knuckles for extra hand protection.

  • FOOTWEAR: Wear sturdy shoes to protect your feet. Be sure they are closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops, sandals, or other open footwear). DO NOT ride bare-footed or bare-toed if you want to keep your toes intact. Choose shoes that have good traction (with raised areas on the soles, such as sport shoes) to prevent slipping.

  • STURDY CLOTHING: Wear sturdy clothing to protect your skin from scrapes. Long pants and long-sleeved shirts protect more of your skin’s surface area. Brightly colored clothing with reflective tape is best to ensure visibility, whether day or night.

  • EYE PROTECTION is advisable, particularly with scooters that can travel at speeds of 10mph or faster. If bugs, dust, stones or other road debris get in your eyes, it’s harder to maintain safe control of your vehicle, so covering your eyes is recommended.

  • ACCESSORIES: Consider attaching a tall safety flag to your scooter as an extra measure to be sure that you are seen by others. You may also want to add rear-view mirror(s), lights, turn signals, reflectors, and a bell or horn. These items are available as after-market products at local bike shops or in larger stores where scooters and bikes are sold.
